Oh, wow, I had totally forgotten how to draw some of these characters. (Looking at you, Grimmon.) Been a while, eh?

I need to learn a faster way of doing all those fallen leaves. I need winter to happen at a certain point of the story, but that means there needs to be an autumn first. But how do you show autumn in a grayscale comic anyway? Fallen leaves and some mushrooms?

Wurr stuff © me stuff.

leaves everywhere, windy (depends where you are at could be heavy or light), rain (depends too), fog, many leaves on floor, mushrooms could range from size, shape, and how many and depends on what kind, moss, leaves changing color, less leaves on trees or they are naked, some birds flying south for winter, animals changing fur color for winter, dogs getting/having thicker coats, berries on bushes, acorns/nuts on floor or in holes in trees caused by acorn woodpeckers, some animals start getting ready for hibernating, salmon in river/streams, pumpkin and squash growing, you can see your breath when taking or breathing depending on how cold it is outside, snow falling in certain places in very high altitude not a lot but little around 4in maybe, morning due and morning frost, the dirt looks wet/moist or mud, if you want crops there is tomatoes, pomegranates, lemons, corn, and oranges from the top of my head, mosquitoes (?) I've been seeing them outside a lot recently due to the rain, leaves being blown in wind, the dogs shivering, leaves in water, sweet gum tree seeds all over the floor (could be a good hazard for the dogs), have certain plants, spices and herbs growing (?), some herds of animals would be migrating but buffalo are perfect for the winter weather due to their strong heads they move the snow easily to get the grass underneath it so if you want an animal for your winter part buffalo are perfect since they don't need to migrate for winter (one of my professors told me that they migrate north for winter but i have no idea if thats true or not). for winter i know that the deer would start eating the bark off trees to survive.

this is all i got hope this helps :D

fall autumn cues.

leaves are darker, leaves looking more crumpled/ broken or wrinkled. chunks of leaves missing off certain trees. or completely naked trees.

geese/ birds flying in formation. south for the winter.
squirrels storing nuts.

wild pumpkins growing somewhere in background. large pile of leaves, grounds completely covered, including trails. some snow in the mornings/ nights.

more leaves being blown around as it gets windy/ colder.

animals getting lighter with winter coats. such as deer, dogs, foxes, stoats, rabbits, etc.

characters getting colder/ shivering.

The hounds remarking how is annoying walking in silent with so many fallen leaves would be a nice tip for call the reader's attention for the autumn.

I was missing the dogs!

Maybe try making the trees look less full, until they've completely lost all their leaves?

Maybe into the more visual area you can make the leafs with more sharp edges an holes to show they are dry? Also maybe add leaffs fallen on the air, but as everyone said, the character mentioning it is not bad.

The way dogs use their "fingers" intrigues me...
Are these fingers prehensile and opposable like humans' ?

Remarks of preparing for the cold such as someone being annoyed when their winter coat starts coming in, the packs sleeping closer to share warmth, evidence of animals leaving/burrowing/foraging/becoming less active, trees/plants that aren't evergreens having few/no leaves/certain plants growing berries, (where I live) grass appearing flatter/lifeless try using other shades of gray, frost/frozen water could be done using more white along the edges, a slightly darker sky (when shown) could represent cloud cover and added weather effects like rain/very light snow flurries/fog. Oh, with frost being present along the ground, maybe show the paws getting a tad dirty from the wet dirt.

Knowing you, you'll figure something out. You really know how to keep a world alive. :)

^What Fluff-Kitten said.  Also, maybe a throwaway comment by a character/background canine that it's getting colder or they worry the winter's going to be tough?

Acorns, if there are oak trees.  Falling leaves, mushrooms (though those are year round in a lot of places), foraging squirrels and other hibernators, birds flying south, frost, the edges of ponds being frozen, maybe a lot of rain with the dogs/hounds remarking about it being cold?

Just some ideas on how to show fall.

I love your comic.
