The most incredible things about this piece are the shading and detail.

Shading: Amazing depth and values. Even though the page is in greyscale, you can still get an idea of what each object's color must be. In fact, this is one of those pieces that I would consider to be better without color, because then the eye can focus more on the depth and details of the picture. The panel with the hounds running out is especially well done--even without color, you can plainly tell that it is nighttime with the moon out. Also, there is really good contrast, and each canine seems to 'pop' from the background, so you have no trouble instantly telling what the picture is conveying.

Detail: Each rock, blade of grass, and fur tuft is drawn in a way not only brings a richness to the page, but makes it more visually appealing and interesting to look at. For instance, above Iacar's enormous lower canine, there is a little indent where the tooth pushed that part of the lip permanently up into a little notch. Even with all the detail, though, nothing seems cluttered or crowded.

All in all and incredible piece of art, and the time and effort put into it truly shows.
