Making of the Marblehuggers by Paperiapina Making of the Marblehuggers by Paperiapina
Did I just waste like four hours in putting together photos that took maybe less than an hour to take? I think I just did.

I made two new marblehuggers and looks like I felt like documenting it.

Nope, I don't take my work seriously.

1: They are the standard size of marbles, bought from local hobby store.
2: The shape of the dragon, if it's wrapped around the marble, should keep the marble in place. If it looks like it needs glue, then glue it. If not, don't. (Like if it rolls loosely in the dragon's grasp or something.)
3: I do not know, I have only used this kind of clay.

Thanks. :)

how tough is the clay? like if you wanted to make a key chain marble hugger could it stand hitting keys?

When I made critturs similar to these (No photos sadly) I used the old loops from broken Christmas ornaments, shoved into the sculpy before it was baked. The dual "Legs" of the ornament loops held better than eye pins, and had the advantage of being a by-product of my cats holiday entertainment.

If these became buyable, would that lovely chain come with it? Or not?

I'm afraid not. The chain belongs to my magnifying monocle, and unfortunately I've only got one of those.

Curious to know, how long do you normally have to bake them for? We're going out to buy some sculpey today and I'm totally giving these guys a try. We've got a bunch of chains and shiny marbles and stuff everywhere.

If, hypothetically, I wanted to paint one, what kind of paint would I use?

Looks like fun making these little guys. :3 I think I'll practice by making a few similar little dragons, need to make a few friends a little something anyway for their Christmas gifts. I have enough knick knacks sitting around they can wrap about and perch on.
Hmm, ever thought of using very small beads or something of the like to make sparkle eyes on some of them? o: Just a thought.

have to be careful what kind of beads though, you dont want them melting in the oven.

Of curse. Glass and crystal beads are suited for the job. Plastic should only be added after the baking. Burnt plastic smells horrible.

It would indeed but, it's whatever one can get their hands on in the category. Certain glass beads look nicer than others.

Great tutorial!
I wanted to try it out and couldn't even get half of the materials...(no shop in my city seems to have marbles or super culpey).
So I bought similair materials and well, got close enough (though I found ot that you shouldn't use air drying stuff).

These little guys look so neat. I would love to have one of my own.

Have you tried using the copper to make a loop for the chain instead of putting the chain around the wings? I would think that the chain would start to wear the wings away after awhile.

I'm sure you probably know this, so this is more for those of you who are reading this and are new to sculpting.
If you take a cotton swab and dip it a little in nail polish remover or diluted acetone, and you rub it gently on your clay, it takes off fingerprints. So if you don't want little ridges in your finished piece, you can do that so it's nice and smooth. :)

Other than that, this is a wonderful tutorial~ I'm actually trying it right now. |D They're so very cute~
