Doggie teeth tutorial-thingy by Paperiapina Doggie teeth tutorial-thingy by Paperiapina
Big file warning!

Whoa.

I woke up this morning with a feeling that I had to do this (after talking about some dog comic clichés with a friend of mine yesterday. I think that might have something to do with this). Aaand so I kinda spent the rest of the day doing it. Man, I was supposed to write the essays I need tomorrow at school, but nooooooo, the inner voice of my inspiration started nagging louder than usual.

Note to self: tutorial thingies take LONG TIME to make, don't do them if you have urgent school stuff to do.

Too bad I don't have a wolf skull to use as reference in here, I intend to buy a replica one from skullsunlimited.com someday, but those things are expensive and my student budget just isn't enough. Someday.....

I hope there's not too many typos, the thing grew so big that opening the psd would probably crush my little wimpy old Photoshop.

hey there!
I really like the pose of the doggie chewing on a bone.
I drew something similar because of this. I hope that's okay.
But if you want, I'll put it down. :)

This is really great! :D I never heard that it is false that blood does not splatter around if a wolf bites into a deer`s neck so thank you very much for this tutorial! :D

I have such trouble with teeth. Can't remember how many they have, how they're arranged, etc.
Going through each type of tooth really explained a lot and helped it to sink in.
This was so helpful, as I think I learned a lot. Going to go draw like 50 snarly canines to test it now.

What would the creature require to cause the splatter? Any special anatomy (serrated teeth) or specific action (neck slashing)?

Knives, probably. Splatter with teeth only work when veins get torn and thething biting them is removed, freeing the blood toflow out of the wound. Teeth work as a block when biting is still happening. And most importantly, you need movement to shake the blood off the whatever thing it used to belong to. If you want to make a real splashy scene, have your character bite into something, tear that mouthful off the victim, and shake your head so all the blood in the mouthful flies everywhere.

My friend had a dog once, a dreever, who got a small cut to his ear. When the dog got inside the house, he shook himself while the ear was still bleeding. They never got the massive red splatter washed off from the old wooden wall of the room completely, it sure was a sight!

not a whole lot here i didn't know at some point, but i thoroughly enjoyed it all the same :3
i love to study and restudy these kind of things, so this will be used in the future for sure.

i'd love to get my hands on a canine skull or two; i've got a whitetail and a mule deer skull now, and these guys keep me pretty fascinated. if only i drew deer rather than dogs and dragons ;P

Mauling teeth? Possibly what we call carnassials.
You should totaly draw a caribou wolf hunt with a perineum ripping scene! I'd love to see the reactions of the artists with more... 'romanticised' canine characters. :P
